Joseph S. Mancinelli

A visionary  industry icon, thought leader, capacity builder, community activist, social change ambassador, strategic thinking, philanthropist, artist, humanitarian, global citizen are among some of the many words synonymous with the name Joseph S. Mancinelli.

Born in Hamilton on September 11 1957 to Italian Immigrants Enrico and Victoria, Joseph Mancinelli hit the ground running. His father dedicated his life's work to building better communities for marginalized populations within Ontario. From an early age, JSM was able to appreciate the value and importance of opportunity. With a heightened awareness for equality, JSM became preoccupied by the notion that opportunities are not evenly distributed and therefore not always accessible to all social streams. He and his wife Enza have been married for thirty years and have five children and two grandchildren.

Joseph S. Mancinelli serves as International Vice President and Regional Manager for the Central and Eastern Canada region of the Labourers' International Union of North America (LiUNA), a diverse and multi-faceted union with over 130 000 members across Canada. JSM is also the Chair of the Labourers' Pension Fund of Central and astern Canada (LPFCEC); President of the LiUNA Ontario District Council, Chair of the Labourers' Health and Safety Fund, Labourers' Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET) and the LiUNA Training & Education Fund; President of the LiUNA Group Ltd.

Joseph has earned the respect of his peers, colleagues and staff who look up to him as a role model. Isolating the needs of those against the offs, the wheels are always turning as he thinks of effective solutions that will bring forward necessary and sustainable change. They celebrate the way that he values every human being as his equal and that he advocates for anyone whose feel their voice is not strong, loud or prominent enough to be heard. In turn, JSM embodies their voice and sets a platform for all voices to be heard.

Joseph S. Mancinelli celebrates tradition, culture and heritage though at the same time maintains a mindset of modern and forward thinking strategies to build better communities. JSM translates grandiose ideas into compartments of action items, all moving in the direction of growth, advancement and prosperity. As a proud father of five and grandfather of two, Joseph recognizes youth as the future, inspiring and investing his time and resources in the next generation heightening his aptitude to lead.

Throughout Joseph's career and multitude of philanthropic initiatives, it is evident that he has always demonstrated innovation and creativity while delivering lasing results. He believes that education is a human right and a catalyst for change. Under his leadership, his home local, LiUNA Local 837 in Hamilton, was the first to successfully implement scholarship programs for their member's children.

Joseph Mancinelli has spearheaded hundreds of funding opportunities for many charitable organizations across Canada. To date, LiUNA proudly contributes over 6 million dollars annually for various causes across the Country. Over 20 years ago, Joseph established the Annual LiUNA Golf Tournament where all proceeds raised are donated to various children's charities including the Children's Wish Foundation, the Down Syndrome Association, the Safehaven Project for Community Living, and the Camp Trillium Foundation, together with many various charitable organizations over the years. The proceeds have funded over 1000 recreational outings and opportunities for children with special needs, terminal illnesses and disabilities within Ontario.

Joseph strongly believes that active citizenship means fostering new relationships with all victims of displacement and continues a major philanthropic project focused on creating opportunities for newcomers to the province whilst ensuring all feel welcomed, included and respected.

Joseph is one of the greatest community leaders and industry pioneers of our time. He remains loyal and true to the Canadian model of inclusion and ensures that is is always practicing active citizenship. In September 2015, under JSM leadership, LiUNA announced the appointment of Mr. Phil Fontaine, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, as co-chair of LiUNA's Aboriginal Affairs Committee with a goal to establish a committee that twill strive to harmonize its outreach efforts with Aboriginal leaders across Canada to train and employ persons of First nations, Metis and Inuit decent.

A champion of heritage and historical causes, Joseph's vision and persistence was and remains a driving force behind many redevelopment initiatives in Hamilton including the restoration of the former CN Rail Station now LiUNA Station, and the development of LiUNA's Long-term care facilities Queens Garden and Regina, reviving aging neighborhoods in Ontario recognized by the Canadian Urban Institute at the "Brownie Awards." Under Joseph's leadership, LiUNA has restored and redeveloped an Ontario landmark, the Lister Block, a building in Hamilton whose cultural significance has resulted in it being named a provincial historical site.

In his own call to action, Joseph has achieved positive and progressive social change. From granting thousands of students with scholarships, funding hundreds of recreational programs for children with special needs, building extensive additions to community medial spaces, developing long term care programs for seniors in the province, protecting our environment, supporting the need for truth and reconciliation and leading an employment base of over 130 000 members and their families, Joseph S. Mancinelli has dedicated his life's work to creating a better Canada for all.

PHILANTHROPY

JOSEPH MANCINELLI NAMED 10TH ON URBAN CITY TOP 15 INFLUENCE LIST 2015
"Mancinelli has become a prominent labour leader not only here in Hamilton but across the country. Locally, his endeavours have included the restoration of both LiUNA Station and the Lister Block, as well as two long-term care facilities in the city. Highly active in local politics, Mancinelli has often wielded his influence to help elect multiple candidates in all levels of government through fundraising and volunteer support. A fact that most people may not know about this influential local labour leader is that he is also an accomplished artist. Mancinelli’s proud Italian heritage is the subject of much of his work, which depicts colourful scenes of Italy as well as many local landmarks in Hamilton, for which he has endless passion."

 -Fred Eisenberger, Mayor of Hamilton

LiUNA Station Hamilton,ON

Joseph's artistic intuition and commitment to Hamilton is celebrated through the beauty and success of LiUNA Station. For six years, the beautiful and historical building formerly known as the Canadian National Railway James North Station built between 1929 and 1931, sat untouched enduring more damage each passing year. Under the leadership of Joseph S. Mancinelli, LiUNA purchased the space known today as one of the most elegant banquet and conference facilities, LiUNA Station. With a rich history and significance to Hamilton, Joseph ensured the revitalization captured the traditional beauty, maintaining most of it's original structure.

The latest construction to undergo at LiUNA Station, was the development of additional Banquet Halls on the original Tracks where trains originally idled at the CN Railway. With the much-celebrated arrival of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1939, the space was named the King George Ballroom, chosen by Joseph Mancinelli who incorporated historical photographs and artifacts of King George to celebrate it's history and commitment to tradition.

The revitalization of the Lister Block engaged a significant increase in development interest in downtown Hamilton, resulting in infrastructure and developments that continue to shape Hamilton’s growth. Purchased by the City of Hamilton in 2012, the Lister Block became a hub for several municipal branches included Tourism and Culture, Tourism Hamilton Visitor Centre located on the beautifully restored ground floor arcade, and home to public service and community engagements.

The Lister Block resulted in LiUNA renovating one of the most infamous Hamilton City Buildings. Under the vision of Joseph Mancinelli, the land beside the restored Lister, also owned by LiUNA, will become a 20-storey student housing complex for McMaster University and Mohawk College students.

LENDING A HAND, north america

Led by LiUNA Vice President and Regional Manager, Joseph S. Mancinelli, "LUNA Lending a Hand" Charity Motorcycle Ride is a three day event created to assist families of LiUNA Members who have been seriously injured on the job and are unable to work, or in the most unfortunate circumstance, succumbed to injuries. In partnership with Laborers' Care in the Ohio Valley and Southern States Region, this three day ride offers immediate financial support to ensure an individual’s short-term obligations are met for both themselves and their families. It is the goal of this charitable ride to assist LiUNA Members and their families through the most difficult times.

Larger than life, israel

Joseph Mancinelli has led two delegations to Israel as a supporter and financial donor of Larger than Life, a Kindergarten for Children with Cancer living in Israel. Larger than Life an Israeli organization which aims to improve the quality of life for  children with cancer and their families in Israel, regardless of faith, race or gender. The foundation is the largest organization of its type in Israel and works tirelessly to provide children with the necessary medications to help prolong and possibly save their lives. Due to the children's weakened immune systems, the school requires the most innovative technology and sanitation to ensure the children are safe and healthy whilst improving their daily activity and keeping their spirits high through daily activity and interaction. Joseph Mancinelli took the initiative to host an annual Gala at LiUNA Station in Hamilton in which proceeds are contributed to Larger than Life. In attendance is Lior Shmueli, good friend and CEO of Larger than Life.

"We can save the children together. I invite you to visit Israel and witness how your donations are truly making a difference for our children. They are truly larger than life. God bless you all"
-Lior Shmueli, CEO Larger than Life
